To help achieve the objectives of the Green Ghana campaign, which is aimed at planting and nurturing at least five million trees across the country, President Akufo-Addo has named some prominent Ghanaians as Ambassadors of the initiative.
The Green Ghana Ambassadors are First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo; Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia; Second Lady, Mrs Samira Bawumia; Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin; Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin-Yeboah; Akosua Frema Osei-Opare; and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The rest are: Ya Naa Mahama Abubakar II; Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II; and Osman Nuhu Sharubutu. The ambassadors also include other prominent Ghanaian citizens.
President Akufo-Addo named the Green Ghana Ambassador on Friday, June 11, 2021, when he officially planted a commemorative tree at the Jubilee House to take part in the Green Ghana project.
At least five million trees are expected to be planted and nurtured during the campaign, which is part of efforts to address government’s plans to mitigate the impact of climate change and also restore the country’s forests cover.
