The inauguration of President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will take place in the precinct of Parliament on Monday, January 7, 2021.
The decision to move the inauguration from the Black Star Square follows an appeal by Parliament on November 3, 2020, to have subsequent swearing-in of presidents done in and before parliament.
Deputy Minister of Information, Pius Enam Hadzide, made this know at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday.
He explained that when President Akufo-Addo commissioned the office facilities under the physical infrastructure projects of Parliament on November 3, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Member of Parliament for Suame, Hon.Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu appealed on behalf of parliament for subsequent swearing-ins to be done in Parliament “in accordance with Ghanaian laws and international best practices.”
Subsequently, he said, “the transition team has favourably considered the request of Parliament and has decided that the swearing of President Akufo-Addo on January 7, shall happen before Parliament and within the precincts of Parliament.”
He added that the inauguration sub-committee of the 2020 presidential transition team was therefore working with Parliament to ensure a successful and COVID-19 compliant inauguration.
